The Kaduna State Government has suspended its 66th Independence Day celebration, which was scheduled to hold on Thursday, October 1, 2026.

The state Commissioner for Information and Culture, Ahmed Maiyaki, announced the decision in a statement issued on Tuesday on behalf of Governor Uba Sani. According to the statement, the suspension took effect immediately on Monday, September 28.

The statement, titled “Suspension of the 66th National Independence Day Celebration,” informed residents and other stakeholders that the planned event would no longer take place as scheduled.

“This is to inform the general public that the Kaduna State Government has suspended the 66th National Independence Day Celebration, earlier scheduled to take place on Thursday, 1st October 2026,” the statement said.

The state government apologised for any inconvenience caused by the decision and thanked residents and stakeholders for their cooperation and understanding.

Meanwhile, President Bola Tinubu is expected to mark Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary in Lagos, where he is expected to remain through Thursday, October 1.

The President is expected to deliver the traditional Independence Day broadcast on October 1, while a public lecture is scheduled for September 30 as part of the anniversary activities.

The Kaduna suspension and the President’s planned Lagos engagements come as states and the Federal Government prepare separate programmes to commemorate Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.
