Current members of the State House of Assembly and National Assembly would not automatically obtain return tickets, as former Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi has stated.
Speaking on behalf of former Governor Niyi Adebayo, another leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Fayemi underlined that MPs need to put in a lot of effort to earn their return tickets. As part of their evaluation, he asked them to back Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s candidacy for a second term.

At a gathering with APC stakeholders at his rural residence in Isan Ekiti, the former minister made this announcement. He also took use of the occasion to formally support Governor Oyebanji for a second term, lauding his accomplishments, especially in the appointment-related field.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will shortly announce the date of the Ekiti governorship election, Fayemi said, acknowledging that there are people calling for Oyebanji to run again. Fayemi made the interesting observation that some people who rejected Oyebanji’s 2022 campaign are now supporting his reelection campaign.

After leaving the APC to run for office under a different party, these persons have since joined the APC again. Although they were welcomed back, Fayemi made it apparent that they would need to “wait in line” and earn their spot. Additionally, Fayemi stressed that the APC is a democratic party and that anyone who want to run for governor in 2026 is welcome to do so.

He did clarify, though, that he and his family personally back Oyebanji. It would be interesting to watch how events play out in Ekiti State as this declaration sets the scenario for the next elections.
As previously reported, Ekiti Governor Biodun Oyebanji has started paying the state’s workers the new minimum salary.

Following the distribution of the increased minimum wage, hundreds of workers gathered at the governor’s office on Tuesday, December 17, to thank him. Junior officers and permanent secretaries expressed gratitude to the governor when the new minimum wage was implemented.
