The Osun State Government has raised the alarm over alleged plans by some stakeholders to trigger fresh crises across local government councils and motor parks in the state, urging residents to reject any attempt to undermine public peace.

The government made the call in a statement issued on Sunday by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, as it appealed to residents and political stakeholders to embrace post-election reconciliation, healing and peace-building following the recently concluded governorship election.

Alimi said the government was concerned about reports of immediate post-election disruptions in some parts of the state and urged all residents to return to peaceful coexistence and rule-based engagement. He particularly expressed concern over alleged plans to create fresh tension at local government councils and motor parks.

He said, “The government also noted the immediate post-election disruptions in some areas of the state and urged all residents and citizens of the state to allow restoration of peaceful co-existence and rule-based interactions among all sectors of the society.

“The government is particularly disturbed by reports of plans by some stakeholders to ignite fresh rounds of crisis across local government councils and motor parks across the state.

“This plan, if true, should stop immediately in the interest of public peace. Osun needs peace for development, not violence in politics.”

The commissioner stressed that the Osun governorship election had been concluded, urging political actors to accept the outcome and pursue their grievances through lawful channels.

He added, “The Osun election has been won and lost. Mr President and Mr Governor had engaged on a peaceful way forward. Any push towards violence represents an affront on the Presidency and the Nigerian Constitution.”

The government’s warning comes amid heightened political tensions in the state following the election, with authorities urging political parties, community leaders, transport unions and other stakeholders to prioritise peace and stability.
