In a statement published on its verified X account, the firm described the allegations as troubling and warned of the potential political and diplomatic consequences of any attack on the opposition figure. However, the allegation has not been independently established.
The firm said Dr Von Batten intended to bring the allegations against President Bola Tinubu to the attention of the administration of United States President Donald Trump and members of Congress. It also issued a warning to the Nigerian government over the reported claims. No independently verified evidence or official response from the Nigerian presidency was included in the report establishing the alleged assassination plot.
Separately, former All Progressives Congress (APC) Deputy National Publicity Secretary Timi Frank has urged Trump and the international community to intervene. In an open letter reportedly addressed to international leaders on Monday, Frank called for an independent investigation into allegations of threats against Atiku and possible attempts to intimidate, arrest, detain or undermine his participation in the forthcoming electoral process.
He urged the United States, United Nations, African Union, ECOWAS, European Union and United Kingdom to engage the Nigerian government and seek credible assurances regarding the safety of opposition leaders.
