INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, made this known on Monday during an interactive meeting with commission staff and a readiness assessment visit to Enugu State. He said the commission was working on several aspects of election preparation, including the procurement of materials and vehicles, facility upgrades, staff training and improved logistics.
According to INEC, the Enugu visit represented the South-East leg of its nationwide physical assessment tour, following similar exercises in the South-West, North-Central and North-West geopolitical zones. Amupitan said training programmes for electoral personnel would begin soon to familiarise them with changes introduced by the new Electoral Act and the commission’s guidelines for the 2027 elections.
He added that INEC was developing training materials that staff could access beyond face-to-face sessions, while selected personnel would train other election workers.
The INEC chairman urged staff to maintain strict neutrality before, during and after the elections, warning against any conduct that could suggest support for a political party. He stressed that professionalism, accountability and effective management of election results were crucial to strengthening public confidence in the electoral process.
Amupitan also warned that the commission would not tolerate misconduct capable of undermining the credibility of the polls, describing the 2027 election as a major test of INEC’s preparedness.
