The Lagos State Police Command has disbanded a tactical team operating in Ikorodu and detained four police officers following a viral video showing them allegedly harassing a young man in the Odogunyan area.
The command said the officers, identified as members of the Imota/Immortal Tactical Team, were identified after an investigation into the video and would face disciplinary proceedings over the incident.

The police spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, disclosed this in a statement on Friday, saying the command had taken immediate action after establishing the identities of the officers involved.
Commissioner Orders Officers’ Detention
According to Adebisi, the four officers were summoned to the office of the Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, on Thursday, where the decision to detain them and disband the entire tactical team was reached.
“The verdict was that these officers would be detained immediately, pending disciplinary proceedings. Also, the entire team will be disbanded,” she said.
Adebisi confirmed that all four officers were in custody for further investigation and disciplinary action.
The command said three of the officers were presented at its headquarters in Ikeja, while the fourth remained in custody but was not presented.
“They are presently here at the headquarters for further inquiries, and I want to assure members of the public that we will take appropriate actions against them,” the spokesperson added.
Police Respond to Viral Video
The action followed the circulation of a video on social media showing the officers allegedly harassing a young man in Odogunyan, Ikorodu.
The footage prompted an investigation by the command, which subsequently identified the officers involved.
The police statement, as reported, did not provide further details about what led to the confrontation, the circumstances surrounding the recording or the young man’s account of the incident.
The allegations are therefore still subject to investigation, while the officers remain in custody pending further inquiries and disciplinary proceedings.
Command Warns Against Police Misconduct
Adebisi said Commissioner Fatai had warned police personnel against misconduct and reiterated that the command would not tolerate impunity among officers.
She stressed that officers were expected to perform their duties with integrity and humility while respecting the public they were deployed to protect.
The decision to disband the tactical team also signals an administrative response to the incident, although the command did not provide details of how its personnel or responsibilities would be reassigned.
Police Thank Residents, Encourage Reporting
The Lagos Police Command thanked members of the community who helped identify the officers and urged residents to continue reporting incidents of alleged police misconduct.
The command said it would take appropriate action against officers found to have acted improperly.
The case has renewed attention on police accountability and the use of social media videos in bringing alleged misconduct to the attention of authorities.
However, the final outcome will depend on the findings of the investigation and the disciplinary process. The command has yet to announce the outcome of those proceedings.
