President Bola Tinubu has called on judges and judicial officers across Nigeria to uphold justice and ensure that the courts remain the last hope of ordinary citizens seeking fairness and protection under the law.

The President made the appeal on Monday during the commissioning of the newly constructed Court of Appeal Abuja Division complex as part of activities marking the third anniversary of his administration. He was represented at the event by Vice President Kashim Shettima.

Tinubu emphasized the critical role of the judiciary in strengthening democracy and maintaining public confidence in governance. According to him, Nigerians expect the courts to dispense justice promptly, fairly, and without regard to social status or political influence.

He urged judicial officers to ensure that every citizen, regardless of background, can trust the legal system to protect their rights.

“Let justice be swift and pure, let it be blind to status and pride. Let the common man feel that this court is truly his last hope,” the President said.

The President stated that the construction of the new Court of Appeal complex aligns with his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which seeks to improve governance, strengthen institutions, and promote the rule of law.

According to him, the government is investing in key sectors, including the judiciary, education, healthcare, power, and infrastructure, with the aim of rebuilding national institutions and improving service delivery.

Tinubu noted that judicial reforms remain an important part of his administration’s broader governance objectives. He stressed that judges deserve a working environment that reflects the importance of their responsibilities and assured the judiciary of continued government support.

He also commended efforts by the Federal Capital Territory Administration toward improving infrastructure, including roads, residences, and facilities that support legal education and judicial operations.

The President acknowledged the heavy workload handled by the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal, particularly in election petitions and other significant legal matters. He said the court’s responsibilities make it essential for judicial officers to operate in a conducive and professional environment.

“The eyes of Nigerians are on you, and you deserve an environment that matches your responsibilities. It is your right, and we will do more,” he said.

Tinubu expressed hope that the new court complex would serve as a symbol of democratic progress and contribute to delivering judgments that promote unity, stability, and national development.

The commissioning of the facility highlights ongoing efforts by the government to strengthen judicial infrastructure and improve access to justice for Nigerians.
