According to sources cited by The PUNCH, Turaki emerged as the preferred candidate during a crucial meeting of the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT), chaired by former Senate President Adolphus Wabara, held in Abuja on Sunday. The move is seen as part of efforts to address the lingering leadership crisis within the opposition party.
Speaking at the meeting, Wabara took a firm stance against internal dissent, declaring that the PDP would not yield to what he described as “political saboteurs.” He emphasized that the party remains resilient despite ongoing disputes.
“The PDP will never surrender to renegades and political brigands,” Wabara stated, reaffirming the BoT’s commitment to protecting the party’s structure and unity.
He further explained that the Board’s intervention aligns with the PDP constitution, noting that the caretaker committee is aimed at stabilizing the party and fostering reconciliation among aggrieved members ahead of future political engagements.
