United projects up to £760m revenue after Champions League return

Manchester United recorded a net loss of £43 million for the financial year ended June 30, 2026, despite posting record revenue of £677.6 million.

The club’s revenue increased by 1.7 per cent, with broadcasting income rising by almost 20 per cent following United’s third-place finish in the 2025/26 Premier League season. However, commercial and matchday revenue declined by almost five per cent as the club played the campaign without European football.

The latest accounts mean United have now recorded their seventh consecutive annual loss after tax. The figures also included £8.2 million in exceptional costs, largely associated with the departure of manager Ruben Amorim in January after 14 months in charge.

Former United midfielder Michael Carrick subsequently took charge and guided the team to a third-place Premier League finish, securing qualification for the 2026/27 UEFA Champions League.

The club also spent £63.5 million on land next to Old Trafford during the financial year as part of plans for a proposed new 100,000-capacity stadium.

Since acquiring a stake in the club in February 2024, co-owner Jim Ratcliffe has overseen a series of cost-cutting measures, including job reductions and efforts to reduce operating expenses. The accounts also showed an increase in loan repayments during the period.

Manchester United chief executive Omar Berrada said the financial results reflected the impact of the club’s restructuring programme.

“This shows the direct impact of the work we have been doing over the past two years,” Berrada said.

“It also proves Manchester United’s enduring popularity and commercial strength.

“While these results confirm that we are on the right trajectory, we will continue to take a disciplined approach to ensure our finances remain sustainable.”

Berrada said the return to Champions League football, alongside investment in the men’s and women’s teams during the summer transfer window, would support the club’s financial position.

Manchester United expects to generate revenue of between £740 million and £760 million during the current financial year.

On the pitch, however, Carrick’s side have made a difficult start to the 2026/27 Premier League campaign, collecting five points from their opening five matches and suffering elimination from the English League Cup.
