Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have intercepted more than 1.5 million pills of Tramadol concealed in two trucks that entered Nigeria through the Benin Republic border, dealing another significant blow to drug trafficking syndicates.

Naija News reports that the agency disclosed the development in a statement issued on Sunday by its Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, via his official 𝕏 account.

According to Babafemi, the latest operation comes barely a week after NDLEA officers in Lagos seized 558,900 pills of Tramadol 250mg hidden inside a specially constructed false-bottom compartment reinforced with thick iron sheets beneath a truck that travelled from Togo through the Benin Republic.

He explained that acting on credible intelligence, NDLEA operatives intercepted two additional trucks using the same concealment technique and route into Nigeria.

The agency said the two trucks contained more than three times the quantity recovered during the previous operation, with the over 1.5 million Tramadol pills reportedly destined for northern Nigeria.

Babafemi described the seizure as a major victory in the agency’s ongoing campaign against drug trafficking networks, noting that the illicit consignment was intended for criminal elements, including bandits and other armed groups.

He stated that the operation prevented a massive shipment of dangerous narcotics from reaching criminal gangs, thereby protecting young Nigerians, public health and national security.

The NDLEA spokesman added that traffickers have increasingly turned to land border routes after intensified enforcement at the nation’s seaports but stressed that the agency remains committed to dismantling their operations wherever they occur.

He reaffirmed the NDLEA’s determination to sustain intelligence-driven operations aimed at disrupting drug supply chains and preventing illicit substances from entering communities across the country.
