Award-winning Nigerian singer, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has criticised the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the party as “backward” and accusing it of attempting to hinder development in Osun State.

The music star made the remarks on Monday after witnessing a large turnout of residents at the inauguration of the Lagere Flyover in Ile-Ife, commissioned by his uncle and Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke.

Sharing a video of the crowd on his verified 𝕏 (formerly Twitter) account, Davido expressed confidence in Governor Adeleke’s popularity and insisted that the APC could not stop what he described as God’s project. The singer questioned why a party that identifies itself as “progressive” would oppose development projects in the state. “Jesus, see Ile-Ife crowd!! For @AAdeleke_01!!! Done deal! You can’t stop God’s project.

APC is just backward. Why would they be doing anything to stop progress? Thought y’all were progressives,” he wrote.

Davido’s latest comments come days after his appeal for a peaceful governorship election in Osun State sparked political reactions. Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, had responded by stating that Davido was not an eligible voter in Osun and also distanced himself from remarks attributed to Ambrose Nwogwugwu, who criticised the singer’s earlier appeal.

Davido had urged Uzodimma, whom he described as his “daddy from Imo State,” to use his influence to ensure a peaceful and credible governorship election on August 15, stressing that he was reacting to circulating concerns and not making confirmed allegations.
