The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the August 15, 2026, Osun State governorship election, Adedamola Adebayo, popularly known as FRYO, has withdrawn from the race and endorsed the re-election bid of incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party (A). Adebayo announced his decision on Wednesday during a press conference in Osogbo, directing PDP members, supporters and political structures loyal to his leadership across the state to back Adeleke in Saturday’s governorship election.

Explaining his decision, Adebayo said it followed extensive consultations and a careful assessment of the political situation in Osun State. He maintained that his action was taken in the overall interest of the state rather than personal political ambition, stressing that leadership sometimes requires difficult decisions. According to him, politics is not only about contesting elections but also about putting the welfare and future of the people above individual aspirations. He clarified that the decision was entirely his own and that he had informed PDP leaders, members and stakeholders across the state before making the announcement.

The former PDP flag bearer urged his supporters to respect his judgment and support Adeleke peacefully at the polls, while acknowledging that some members might disagree with his decision.

He also appealed to all political leaders, candidates and supporters to reject violence, intimidation, hate speech and political bitterness before, during and after the election, noting that Osun residents would continue to live together after the polls. Adebayo concluded by thanking those who supported his governorship ambition and called for unity, peace and responsible participation in the electoral process, describing the progress and stability of Osun State as more important than any political contest.
