The Nigerian Army has announced that more than 150 terrorist commanders, fighters and affiliates have surrendered to troops of Operation Hadin Kai across the North-East following intensified military operations against terrorist networks in the region.

The development was disclosed in a statement on Monday by the spokesperson for Operation Hadin Kai, Muhammed Goni, who said the number of surrendering terrorists recorded a significant increase compared with the previous week. According to him, over 50 commanders, fighters and affiliates surrendered in the preceding week, while the figure rose to more than 150 in the current week.

The army attributed the development to sustained intelligence-led operations, intensified military pressure and coordinated kinetic and non-kinetic efforts aimed at weakening terrorist groups and encouraging their members to abandon terrorism voluntarily.

“The Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), has recorded an unprecedented increase in terrorist surrenders week-on-week, rising from over 50 terrorist commanders, fighters and affiliates in the previous week to over 150 in the current week,” the statement said.

The military also disclosed that weapons and ammunition were recovered from some of the surrendering terrorists, describing the development as further evidence of the impact of ongoing operations against terrorist networks.

The army said strategic communication, civil-military engagement and other non-kinetic measures had also contributed to the increasing number of surrenders.

Operation Hadin Kai reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining pressure on terrorist groups, disrupting their operational capabilities and support networks, while protecting civilians and restoring peace across the North-East.
