Oyinlola Urges Tinubu, Atiku To Quit 2027 Presidential Race Over Age
Former Osun State Governor, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, to withdraw from the 2027 presidential contest, arguing that both politicians are too old for the position.
Oyinlola said the two leaders had made significant contributions to the country and should give younger Nigerians the opportunity to lead.
He made the remarks during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday.

Oyinlola Says Tinubu, Atiku Should Make Way For Younger Leaders
The former governor and retired military officer maintained that the presidency required younger leadership, urging Tinubu and Atiku to step aside ahead of the 2027 general election.
“Tinubu and Atiku are too old to contest the 2027 presidency. They should step aside for younger people,” he said.
Oyinlola argued that political leaders who had spent years in public service should consider making room for a new generation.
Former Governor Recalls Age Position On Governorship
Explaining his position, Oyinlola recalled that during his tenure as governor of Osun State, he had expressed the view that anyone above the age of 50 should not aspire to become a state governor.
“When I was in Osun, I made a declaration based on my experience in office that anybody above 50 should not aspire to be governor of a state,” he said.
His comments have added to the ongoing debate about age, leadership succession and generational change ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Obasanjo’s Son Joins Tinubu Re-Election Campaign Movement
Meanwhile, Olujuwon Obasanjo, son of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, has been appointed Special Adviser on Political Affairs to the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement.
Olujuwon formally assumed the position on Wednesday during a visit to the group’s national secretariat in Abuja.
The movement’s National Coordinator, Sunday Asuku, received him and conducted him around the facility.
Olujuwon Calls For Support For Tinubu’s Re-Election
Speaking after the visit, Olujuwon said he accepted the appointment because he believed the reforms introduced by the Tinubu administration deserved to be sustained beyond 2027.
He urged Nigerians, particularly young people, to support the President’s re-election bid.
His appointment comes as political groups and supporters intensify activities ahead of the 2027 general election.
The development presents a contrasting political position to Oyinlola’s call for Tinubu and Atiku to withdraw from the presidential race and allow younger candidates to emerge.
