Wike Fires Back At Oyinlola, Calls Him Failed Governor
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has criticised former Osun State Governor, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, following his declaration that the minister could never be his political leader.
Wike described Oyinlola as a failed governor who could not secure a second term in office, while also alleging that the former governor once lobbied him for the position of Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The FCT minister made the remarks during his monthly media chat in Abuja on Thursday.
Oyinlola Says Wike Cannot Be His Leader
The exchange followed comments made by Oyinlola during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today.
The former governor said he did not recognise Wike as his leader, arguing that the minister was still in school when he served as governor of Osun State.
Oyinlola also described Wike as his boy, insisting that their political and leadership histories did not place the FCT minister above him.
“Nobody has invited me to any Rainbow Coalition. I don’t know the meaning of Rainbow except the one I know. He is not my leader. You don’t say that kind of thing. Yes, I am a member of the PDP, but he is not my leader.
“When I was governor, where was he? He was in school. So, he doesn’t qualify to be my leader. He’s my boy,” Oyinlola said.
Wike Accuses Oyinlola Of Lobbying For PDP Position
Responding to the former governor, Wike dismissed his comments and questioned his political record in Osun State.
The minister described Oyinlola as a failed governor, arguing that he was unable to win a second term.
Wike also claimed that Oyinlola had approached him to seek support for the position of PDP Deputy National Chairman, but that he rejected the request.
“Oyinlola was a failed governor who couldn’t win a second term as Osun governor. Oyinlola say he is my senior but he comes to lobby me to become deputy chairman, I told him, No, that I will fail him and I did,” Wike stated.
Political Tension Emerges Amid Rainbow Coalition Debate
The exchange comes amid political disagreements over the Rainbow Coalition led by Wike and its support for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general election.
Wike has maintained that the coalition is focused on supporting Tinubu’s re-election, while allowing members to support candidates of other political parties in governorship and legislative contests.
The disagreement has attracted criticism from some political figures, including Oyinlola, who has distanced himself from the coalition’s leadership arrangement.
The latest verbal exchange highlights growing political divisions and disagreements over leadership, loyalty and party alignments ahead of the 2027 elections.
