Former Minister of Power and governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, Adebayo Adelabu, has declared that the party is yet to officially produce its governorship candidate for the 2027 election.

Adelabu made the clarification in a statement issued on Monday, urging party members and supporters to remain calm and avoid being influenced by rumours and unofficial announcements regarding the outcome of the APC governorship primaries in the state.

The former minister stressed that no individual or group within the Oyo State chapter of the APC has the authority to announce the final outcome of the governorship primary process.

According to him, only the national leadership of the party has the constitutional power to make such a declaration.

“Oyo APC guber candidate yet to emerge,” Adelabu stated.

“At this crucial stage, no one should allow himself or herself to be misled by rumours, propaganda or premature victory claims designed to manipulate public perception, create confusion among party faithful and influence ongoing consultations within the party,” he added.

The statement followed widespread reports that Senator Sarafadeen Alli had emerged as the APC consensus governorship candidate in Oyo State.

Reports had also claimed that the Oyo APC chairman, Moses Adeyemo, announced Alli’s emergence after a meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Lagos over the weekend.

Adelabu cautioned party members against accepting unofficial lists or social media claims regarding candidates for governorship and other elective offices.

He argued that premature declarations could create tension within the party and undermine internal democratic processes.

“Such actions are neither helpful to the party nor consistent with the principles of fairness, discipline and internal democracy that should guide our conduct as loyal APC members,” he said.

“Any purported list of candidates being circulated on social media or through unofficial channels should be treated with utmost caution until the national leadership of the party makes its official pronouncement,” he added.

The APC governorship contest in Oyo State has attracted significant attention ahead of the 2027 elections.

Adelabu resigned as Minister of Power on April 30, 2026, to fully participate in the APC governorship race.

He is contesting alongside eight other aspirants in what has become one of the party’s most closely watched internal battles in the South-West.

The disagreement over claims of consensus arrangements highlights ongoing tensions within the Oyo APC as stakeholders continue consultations on the party’s final choice for the governorship election.
