The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is set to hold its first National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting at its national headquarters, Wadata Plaza, following the reopening of the secretariat by the police last week.

The party’s secretariat had been sealed in November last year after a violent confrontation between factions loyal to Tanimu Turaki and those aligned with Abdulrahman Mohammed, both laying claim to the party’s leadership.

The crisis took a new turn in March when the Court of Appeal invalidated the Ibadan convention that produced the Turaki-led leadership.

The Mohammed-led faction, which is reportedly backed by the minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, relied on the ruling to organize a separate convention in Abuja.

The NEC meeting is expected to be attended by members aligned with the Mohammed-led faction.

Top figures billed for the meeting include Wike, former Senate President Bukola Saraki, and former Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, among others.

Meanwhile, the faction loyal to Wike has vowed to field a presidential candidate in the 2027 election.

News reports that Wike has openly declared his support for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu.

He had recently revealed during a television interview that the party lacks the financial muscle to fund a presidential campaign.

However, speaking in an interview with Daily Trust, the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Jungudo Haruna Mohammed, dismissed claims that the party would not present a presidential candidate.

He disclosed that the National Executive Committee meeting on Monday will discuss and settle issues concerning zoning and the amount for the forms.
