Speaking on the plight of the oil-bearing communities, Ogiame Atuwatse III stressed that continued exploitation without fair compensation, adequate development, and environmental justice could no longer guarantee lasting peace.
He called on oil firms to urgently reassess their engagement with host communities, insisting on genuine partnerships, improved corporate responsibility, and sustainable development initiatives that reflect the sacrifices made by the people of Itsekiriland.
The revered traditional ruler also urged the Federal Government and relevant regulatory agencies to ensure justice, accountability, and equitable resource benefits for oil-producing communities, warning that stability in the region depends on fairness and inclusion.
