Veteran broadcaster and Arise News anchor, Reuben Abati, has called on the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs Didi Esther Walson-Jack, to resign over her admission that due diligence was not properly conducted in the process that led to the recognition of the disputed Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC).

Speaking on Thursday’s edition of The Morning Show on Arise Television, Abati reacted to the ongoing House of Representatives investigation into the activities of the purported agency, arguing that Walson-Jack’s admission amounted to self-indictment. He said such an acknowledgment of institutional failure would ordinarily be followed by a resignation in many countries, adding that the Civil Service had failed in its professional responsibility by allowing officials to assign staff to PFIPC’s self-acclaimed Director-General, Adeyemi Adeniyi, without first verifying the legal basis establishing the agency.

Abati questioned whether similar irregularities existed across other government institutions, urging investigators to determine if additional agencies had been created or funded on the strength of questionable documentation. Describing the development as an embarrassment to Nigeria’s public administration, he called for a comprehensive audit of government agencies to uncover the full extent of the alleged lapses, insisting that Walson-Jack should accept personal responsibility by stepping down.
