Presidency Backs Obasa’s Return To Lagos Assembly—Source
Mudashiru Obasa’s return to the Lagos State House of Assembly appears to have been facilitated by the Presidency, especially given the reinstatement of his security detail.
According to a Lagos APC senior insider who talked to Punch, Obasa’s return was the outcome of a private meeting with some party leaders who support President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday.
As part of a larger attempt to address the Assembly’s leadership dilemma, some prominent APC officials reportedly met with MPs on Monday.

Along with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and other prominent APC figures, the meeting was attended by former governors of Ogun State and Osun, Bisi Akande and Aremo Olusegun Osoba.
In order to find a long-term solution to the situation, the party leaders also met with members of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC) at the Lagos House Marina.
Sources claim that the meeting began late on Wednesday night and concluded early on Thursday morning. Some of Obasa’s close associates made it clear that something favorable for them was going to happen at around seven or eight in the morning. Since the APC leaders are some of Mr. President’s right-hand men, I firmly believe that the meeting is what led to the lawmaker’s return to the Assembly.
The lawmakers turned down Meranda’s resignation plan, which is the real tale of the Akande-led peace conference. You may also find it interesting that the panel’s request for the lawmakers from Lagos West to submit one of their own to replace Meranda was also turned down. They declared that they approved of her leadership.
The MPs grudgingly accepted the appointment of Hon. Setonji David as the new Speaker after being convinced. However, the disapproval was evident on their expressions. The change in events on Thursday must have been caused by Obasa and the President observing the MPs’ unwillingness to carry out the resolution.
