The Nigerian Senate on Monday held a public hearing on the proposed ₦58.47 trillion 2026 Appropriation Bill as part of its ongoing review of the national budget. The session forms a key stage in the legislative process aimed at scrutinising the spending plan and ensuring it reflects the country’s economic priorities.

The hearing followed the presentation of the budget by President Bola Tinubu to a joint session of the National Assembly on December 19, 2025. Since then, lawmakers have begun consultations and committee engagements to assess allocations, projected revenues, and overall fiscal assumptions contained in the proposal.

During the session, the Senate invited contributions from a wide range of stakeholders, including Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), industry leaders, development partners, and members of the public. Participants were encouraged to provide recommendations and highlight areas requiring adjustments to strengthen the budget’s impact.

Lawmakers said the engagement is designed to promote transparency, accountability, and inclusiveness in the budgeting process, noting that stakeholder input would help shape a more responsive and effective financial plan to support national development in 2026.
