Members of the National Assembly have proceeded on another break after returning to plenary on Tuesday following a 68-day annual recess that began on July 23, 2026.

The lawmakers were originally scheduled to resume on September 15, but the resumption was shifted to September 29 to allow repairs to the sound systems in the chambers of both the Senate and the House of Representatives.

The lawmakers returned on Tuesday but adjourned plenary again, with both chambers fixing October 13, 2026, for the continuation of legislative activities.

In the Senate, lawmakers discussed the security situation across the country before proceeding on the fresh adjournment. The chamber is expected to participate in a National Security Summit, which will bring together lawmakers, security chiefs, security agencies and other stakeholders to deliberate on Nigeria’s security challenges.

The summit is expected to focus on issues including intelligence gathering, national security and the protection of Nigeria’s territorial integrity.

Meanwhile, the House of Representatives also adjourned after considering fiscal matters during Tuesday’s sitting. Lawmakers are expected to return on October 13 to continue consideration of pending bills, budget-related issues and other legislative matters.

The latest adjournment means the National Assembly’s return from its annual recess was brief, with lawmakers scheduled to resume full plenary activities in October.
