The Federal High Court in Abuja has adjourned the trial of activist Omoyele Sowore to September 20, 2026, after a heated exchange between counsel to the Department of State Services (DSS), Kehinde Akinlolu, and Sowore’s lawyer, Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika (SAN), disrupted proceedings.

The confrontation arose after the defence informed the court it could not proceed because the court registry had yet to release a Certified True Copy (CTC) of the summary report of a prosecution witness, identified as XYZ, despite the judge approving the request on July 27. Olumide-Fusika argued that the document was essential for the cross-examination of a subpoenaed witness, while Akinlolu accused the defence of deliberately delaying the trial and urged the court to close its case.

The exchange escalated when both lawyers interrupted each other and traded accusations, prompting the judge to warn them against unprofessional conduct. Akinlolu later apologised to the court and junior lawyers present. The judge, stating that the altercation had left him unable to continue the proceedings, adjourned the matter to September 20, 2026, for continuation of the defence’s case.
