President Bola Tinubu is expected to return to Nigeria on Sunday after spending about three weeks on a working vacation in Europe, according to sources familiar with his itinerary.

Tinubu left Nigeria for London on August 30 as part of his annual leave and later travelled to Paris, France. The Presidency announced on September 21 that the President had extended his stay abroad by a few days and would return to Nigeria at the weekend.

Sources cited by TheCable said Tinubu is expected to arrive in Lagos and could remain in the state for up to one week before travelling to Abuja.

The President’s extended absence from the country has generated political and constitutional discussions, particularly over whether presidential powers should have been formally transferred to Vice-President Kashim Shettima. The Presidency has maintained that Tinubu remained in regular contact with officials in Nigeria and continued to direct government affairs while abroad.

Tinubu’s expected return also comes amid renewed political activity ahead of the 2027 general elections. FCT Minister Nyesom Wike announced on Friday that he plans to establish and lead campaign structures for Tinubu’s re-election bid in both the Federal Capital Territory and Rivers State.

Wike disclosed this while inspecting the ongoing Phase Two construction of the Kuje-Gwagwalada road dualisation project in Chikuku, Abuja. He said political parties were already reorganising ahead of the 2027 elections and that supporters of Tinubu across different political platforms had also begun preparing their campaign structures.
