President Bola Tinubu on Sunday met with Imo State Governor and Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), Hope Uzodinma, in Lagos, urging state governors to ensure that Nigerians feel the direct impact of his administration’s economic reforms.
Uzodinma, who briefed journalists after the meeting, described his discussion with the President as a “very quality conversation,” saying he updated Tinubu on developments in the country during the President’s working visit to Europe. He also said the meeting focused on plans by the progressive governors to intensify public awareness of the administration’s achievements and policies.

According to Uzodinma, the governors’ campaign outing to showcase the administration’s reforms would commence “almost immediately” following Tinubu’s return. He said the focus of the reform agenda had shifted from implementation to ensuring that Nigerians directly benefit from the policies.
The Imo governor specifically cited the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) initiative, saying the reduction in operating costs enjoyed by transport operators using CNG buses should translate into lower fares for commuters.
“Since the cost of transportation has been reduced by the introduction of CNG, that they should now also reduce the fare they charge passengers. That way, it becomes a win-win situation,” Uzodinma said.
Uzodinma also cited developments in Imo State as evidence of what he described as the financial benefits of the Federal Government’s reforms to states. He recalled that when he assumed office in 2021, the state struggled to meet its financial obligations after paying workers’ salaries.
He said the situation had improved, claiming that Imo can now pay salaries while also funding development projects across the state.
“We are grateful to Mr. President and his reform policies. And we are charged again to ensure the real benefits, that the real beneficiaries of the reform policy are the people,” Uzodinma said.
The governor’s comments come as the Tinubu administration continues to face public debate over the effects of its economic reforms, including fuel subsidy removal and changes in the foreign exchange system. The administration has maintained that the measures are intended to stabilise the economy and create a foundation for long-term growth, while critics have continued to raise concerns about the immediate cost of living pressures on Nigerians.
