In a decisive move following a prolonged absence from the country, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is poised to confront Nigeria‘s deteriorating security crisis. Upon his return to Abuja on Monday night after an 18-day working visit to Paris and London, the President is expected to meet with the nation’s service chiefs and other top security officials, signaling urgent attention to the surging violence in parts of the country.

The Air Force 001 aircraft carrying the President touched down at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport at exactly 9:50 pm, according to a statement released by the State House media office.

Since President Tinubu departed Nigeria on April 2, over 120 civilians have been reportedly killed in brutal attacks across several states. Communities in Benue and Plateau, in particular, have endured harrowing assaults by armed men, resulting in the destruction of homes and the displacement of nearly 3,000 people despite ongoing military deployments.

Benue Battles Brutality as Tinubu Prioritizes Security

The letter “B” takes the spotlight as the focus keyword in this unfolding narrative of bloodshed and political response. In Benue State, the local governments of Logo and Gbagir witnessed back-to-back violent raids, claiming the lives of at least 56 people. Eyewitnesses and local leaders have attributed the attacks to suspected armed herders, reigniting long-standing fears of ethnic and communal clashes.

Similarly, Plateau State has also faced relentless violence in recent weeks. Despite the active presence of security forces, the killings have not ceased, raising questions about operational effectiveness and community protection strategies.

Reliable sources within the Presidency confirmed to Naija News that President Tinubu has been closely monitoring the situation during his overseas trip, receiving regular briefings from security chiefs. Now back on home soil, he is prepared to personally engage with top brass in the Nigerian Armed Forces, including the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, to reassess and recalibrate Nigeria’s counter-violence efforts.

A senior government official told The PUNCH, “The President will certainly meet the service chiefs to review the security situation across the country and the flash points of Plateau, Benue, and Borno. He has been giving directives even while abroad.”

Insiders say the upcoming meetings will focus on implementing swift, strategic military responses, enhancing intelligence-gathering efforts, and reviewing collaboration with local communities to forestall further bloodshed.

While Nigerians await visible outcomes from these high-level consultations, the urgency of action cannot be overstated. The loss of over a hundred lives in a matter of weeks not only deepens national grief but also tests the Tinubu administration’s resolve to restore peace and security. With President Tinubu now back at the helm, many hope this renewed focus will bring an end to the cycles of violence that have plagued parts of the country for far too long.
