Tinubu is expected to remain in Lagos through Thursday, October 1, when he will deliver his Independence Day broadcast to Nigerians as part of activities marking the country’s 66th Independence Anniversary. The Federal Government has also scheduled a public lecture for September 30 as part of the anniversary programme.
The reported change in itinerary means the President will spend the Independence anniversary period in Lagos before returning to Abuja next weekend. According to the sources cited by Vanguard, Tinubu had earlier been expected to return to Abuja over the weekend.
The President’s decision to observe the anniversary in Lagos would mark the second consecutive year he has celebrated Nigeria’s Independence Day in the commercial capital. In 2025, Tinubu also marked the anniversary in Lagos, while the Federal Government cancelled the planned Independence Day military parade that year amid security concerns.
