ABUJA, NIGERIA — The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed growing attention around the African Democratic Congress (ADC), declaring that the opposition coalition poses no threat to its political dominance ahead of the 2027 elections.

Speaking during an appearance on Channels Television, APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, launched a scathing critique of key opposition figures, including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rotimi Amaechi, and Rauf Aregbesola, describing them as politically ineffective despite their high profiles.

Morka argued that while many of the opposition figures have held top political offices, their collective strength has failed to translate into meaningful political impact.

“Atiku Abubakar was a former vice president, Rotimi Amaechi was a former governor and minister, Rauf Aregbesola was a former governor; they have been everything else to be,” he said.

“But all of them put together, individually they look like they are superstars, but when they come together, they are ‘twinkle, twinkle, little stars’. They are making no impact whatsoever.”

APC Rejects Interference Allegations

Reacting to claims by the ADC that the ruling party is interfering in its internal affairs, Morka challenged the opposition to provide concrete evidence.

“Why would we be afraid when we have consistently won elections since 2023? Fear a party that is a non-starter? Fear a party that is almost as good as non-existent? We have nothing to fear about the ADC,” he stated.

“ADC should furnish Nigerians with evidence of APC’s complicity in their predicament.”

Claims of Self-Sabotage

Morka went further to suggest that the ADC’s ongoing leadership crisis is self-inflicted, blaming what he described as “inexcusable blunders” within the party.

“I’m beginning to think… that this is all orchestrated, that the ADC is self-sabotaging. They are sabotaging themselves because they know that there is no way in the world they have anything capable of challenging or defeating the APC,” he argued.

Criticism of Opposition Figures

The APC spokesperson also took aim at the broader opposition coalition, including former presidential candidate Peter Obi, accusing them of political inconsistency and instability across party lines.

“These are people who clearly failed to manage the affairs of the parties where they came from… they use a revolving door to move to the next party, create more chaos, and blame the ruling party,” Morka said.

Political Implications

Morka’s remarks highlight the APC’s confidence as Nigeria edges closer to another election cycle, but also underscore the intensifying war of words between the ruling party and emerging opposition alliances.

Analysts note that while the APC may publicly dismiss the ADC, the increasing coordination among opposition figures suggests that political alignments ahead of 2027 could still reshape the landscape.

What Happens Next

With accusations and counter-accusations mounting, attention will shift to whether the ADC can resolve its internal crisis and present a united front, or whether the ruling party’s confidence will hold firm as the political race gains momentum.
