Adebayo Adelabu, the minister of power, revealed that his ministry intends to invest N8 billion in 2025 to educate Nigerians on how to pay their energy bills on time.
While defending the ministry’s budget in front of the National Assembly’s joint committee on power on Monday, the minister revealed this.
He stated that in order to reach all Nigerians, the advocacy would be carried out across print, digital, and social media platforms.
We are a people of more than 200 million. Therefore, in order to truly orient and carry out this advocacy, we must explore every avenue, including social media, digital media, and print media. Thus, N8 billion,” he stated.
Adelabu claims that many Nigerians require education in order to recognize that the power industry is a national resource that requires safeguarding.
He added that another justification for the advocacy was the necessity of preventing power theft.
Regarding advocacy, we think that reeducation of our people is necessary. They must be reoriented to understand that the electricity assets belong to the country and should be owned collectively by all.
“We must educate our people about the dangers of electricity theft. They have to speak up when they notice something,” he continued.
“Our citizens must understand the importance of making regular bill payments. These must all be communicated. We think there is a lot of lobbying, re-orientation, and re-education that the electricity sector needs to do.
