Political Power Play: Fayose Praises Party Pillar, Predicts Presidential Path
Former Ayodele Fayose has stirred fresh political conversation after declaring the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, as a central figure within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Speaking during the party’s national convention, Fayose attributed Wike’s influence to his longstanding contributions and leadership within the party.
The remarks were made at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, where PDP members gathered to deliberate on the party’s future direction. Fayose, representing the Ekiti delegation, emphasized unity and discipline, noting that all members must respect judicial decisions affecting the party.

He stressed that the PDP remains one united entity, regardless of internal disagreements. According to him, adherence to court rulings is critical in maintaining order and credibility within the party. Fayose cautioned that undermining the judiciary could weaken democratic institutions, urging members to seek legal redress through proper channels when necessary.

Highlighting Wike’s role, Fayose stated that the party itself elevated him to a leadership position due to his impact and influence. “He leads, and we follow,” Fayose remarked, underscoring what he described as Wike’s commanding presence in PDP affairs.
Beyond internal party dynamics, Fayose also weighed in on Nigeria’s broader political landscape ahead of future elections. He predicted that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar could emerge as the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Fayose’s projection adds another layer of intrigue to an already evolving political environment, where alliances and party strategies continue to shift. His comments suggest that Atiku remains a formidable contender, capable of securing a major party ticket despite ongoing political realignments.
Turning to Peter Obi, Fayose acknowledged his growing influence and political appeal. He described Obi as a talented and respected leader whose participation in elections significantly shapes outcomes. However, he also noted that Obi’s path to the presidency may still face considerable obstacles.
Fayose referenced Obi’s role in the 2023 general elections, where his candidacy energized a large segment of voters and introduced new dynamics into Nigeria’s political space. Despite this, Fayose suggested that electoral victory at the national level requires broader structural and political support.
He further argued that the ADC might struggle in future elections without Obi’s presence on the ballot, highlighting the importance of strong personalities in driving voter engagement and party success.
As the PDP convention continues, Fayose’s remarks reflect both confidence in party unity and awareness of the competitive challenges ahead. His statements not only reinforce Wike’s standing within the PDP but also offer insight into possible political scenarios leading up to the next general elections.
With political actors positioning themselves and parties recalibrating strategies, Fayose’s predictions contribute to the ongoing national conversation about leadership, alliances, and the future direction of Nigeria’s democracy.
