The Yobe State Police Command has arrested four suspects in separate operations involving alleged theft, assault and criminal conspiracy, recovering a stolen goat and building materials valued at about ₦1.5 million. The arrests were made following intelligence-led operations in Damaturu, with the Commissioner of Police, Usman Kamfani Jibrin, ordering a speedy investigation and prosecution of anyone found culpable.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, disclosed in a statement on Tuesday that the first incident was reported at about 3:30 p.m. on Saturday at the ‘A’ Division, Damaturu. According to preliminary investigations, a 35-year-old suspect allegedly stole a goat at the Sunday Market in Damaturu while attempting to escape. During the incident, an 80-year-old alleged accomplice reportedly attacked the complainant with a stick, inflicting injuries to the back of his head. Police operatives quickly responded to the scene, arrested both suspects and recovered the stolen goat alongside the stick allegedly used in the assault. Abdulkarim said investigations into the case are ongoing.

In a separate operation, detectives attached to the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) arrested three suspects over the alleged theft of building materials worth about ₦2.5 million. The case was reported on August 1, prompting investigators to launch an operation based on credible intelligence. The operation led to the recovery of stolen building materials valued at approximately ₦1.5 million and the arrest of three suspects allegedly found in possession of the items. Police said efforts are continuing to recover the remaining materials and conclude investigations. Commissioner of Police Jibrin directed investigators to ensure both cases are thoroughly investigated and that those found responsible are prosecuted in accordance with the law.
