Popular social media critic, Martins Vincent Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has reacted strongly after the Presidency called for his prosecution over an alleged AI-generated audio linked to President Bola Tinubu.

The controversy began after an X user, @Pious_minister, alleged that a manipulated audio clip mimicking President Tinubu’s voice was used in one of VDM’s videos.

In the viral clip, a voice allegedly imitating the President suggested that insecurity in Nigeria would continue because Nigerians did not vote for him in the 2023 election.

Reacting to the development, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, accused VDM of spreading false content online and abusing social media platforms.

“This VDM needs to face the weight of the law for being the conveyor and disseminator of a fake audio of President Tinubu,” Onanuga wrote.

“This is a clear case of an egregious abuse of the social media platform.”

VDM Responds

In a video posted on his social media page, VeryDarkMan said he would not defend the controversial clip but insisted he was prepared to face any legal action.

“I will not defend the allegations. If I respond, let God punish me. I want to face that law,” he said.

He also stated that he was willing to return earlier than planned to confront the matter directly.

“I will even book a flight to come earlier than I planned. I want to see what you people can do,” he added.

Criticism Over Insecurity

VDM further criticised the Presidency, questioning why government officials had not shown similar urgency regarding insecurity and the abduction of teachers and pupils in Oyo State.

He referenced the recent kidnapping incident involving schoolchildren and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area, claiming the government appeared more concerned about social media criticism than the safety of citizens.

The activist accused authorities of failing to adequately address worsening insecurity across the country.

“It Is My Right To Criticise Government”

VeryDarkMan maintained that citizens have the constitutional right to criticise government actions in a democratic system.

“It is my right to criticise the government when it is doing wrong. We are in a democracy,” he stated.

The controversy has continued to generate debate online over misinformation, AI-generated content, free speech, and government response to criticism on social media.
