The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has cautioned the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ajibola Basiru, to refrain from interfering in the political affairs of Rivers State, warning that such involvement could have consequences.

Wike, a former governor of Rivers State, issued the warning while reacting to recent comments credited to Basiru concerning political alignments and developments in the state. He stressed that Rivers politics is complex and should not be approached with “careless statements” or external interference.

According to Wike, support given to President Bola Tinubu by political actors in Rivers State should not be taken for granted, adding that respect and restraint are necessary to maintain political stability. He warned that those who overstep their bounds risk political backlash, using the phrase, “If you put your hand there, your hand will burn,” to emphasize his point.

The remarks come amid ongoing political tensions in Rivers State, where internal party disagreements and shifting alliances have continued to shape the state’s political landscape ahead of future elections.
