The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has urged politicians and youths to reject violence, provocation and other actions capable of threatening peace ahead of the 2027 general elections.
ACF Chairman, Mamman Mike Osuman (SAN), made the call in a statement marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary, stressing that political differences should not become reasons for hatred, violence or the destruction of communities.
The northern socio-cultural organisation said the period before and after elections could be tense, urging citizens, particularly youths, to exercise restraint and avoid locations, gatherings and situations considered potentially trouble-prone.

Osuman said no political contest was worth the loss of human life and called on politicians and their supporters to conduct their activities peacefully, regardless of their political differences.
The ACF also urged eligible Nigerians with Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs) to participate in the 2027 elections and vote for candidates and political parties of their choice.
The forum advised voters to make their choices based on their individual assessment of candidates and issues, as well as their conscience and judgment, rather than simply following directives from political parties.
“The vote of every citizen is a personal expression of choice and a constitutional instrument for determining who should be entrusted with public responsibility,” the forum stated.
ACF therefore called on Nigerians to approach the 2027 electoral process responsibly and peacefully, while urging political actors and citizens to prioritise the protection of lives and communities throughout the election period.
