Two serving members of the House of Representatives and a former federal lawmaker have joined the Action Peoples Party (APP) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The lawmakers are Boma Goodhead, who represents the Akuku-Toru/Asari-Toru Federal Constituency of Rivers State, and Alozie Ikechi, representing the Obingwa/Ugwunagbo/Osisioma Federal Constituency of Abia State.

The third politician, Uju Chima, is a former member of the House of Representatives from Imo State.

Goodhead and Ikechi are currently serving in the National Assembly, while Chima previously represented the Oguta/Ohaji-Egbema/Oru West Federal Constituency.

The development was announced by Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, an APP chieftain and member of the House of Representatives representing the Ideato North and South Federal Constituency of Imo State.

According to Ugochinyere, the three politicians have already been listed as APP candidates for the 2027 National Assembly elections.

Their movement to the APP comes as political activities and realignments intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, with politicians across the country positioning themselves and their parties for the next electoral cycle.

Ugochinyere welcomed Goodhead, Ikechi and Chima into the APP, describing their decision to join the party as a positive development for its political structure.

He expressed confidence in their ability to compete under the APP platform during the 2027 elections.

“Our party is excited to have great democratic fighters like you in our midst,” Ugochinyere said.

The APP chieftain portrayed the party as an alternative political platform for politicians who want to pursue a different approach to governance and representation.

He said the party was seeking to attract independent-minded politicians and members of a new generation who are interested in moving away from what he described as traditional political practices.

According to him, the APP aims to provide a platform where the interests of citizens remain central to political decision-making and governance.

“APP is a political home for independent-minded, new-generation politicians seeking to change old ways for a new way that is dominated by the people’s interests,” he stated.

The announcement places the three politicians among the growing number of political figures already making preparations for the 2027 elections.

For Goodhead and Ikechi, their defection means they will be seeking to continue their legislative careers under a new political platform.

Chima, who previously served in the House, will also be returning to the electoral contest under the APP banner.

Ugochinyere subsequently wished the three politicians success as they prepare for the next election.

The APP is expected to continue strengthening its political structures and attracting more candidates as the 2027 elections draw closer.

The latest defections also highlight the fluid nature of Nigerian politics ahead of a major electoral cycle, as serving lawmakers and former public officials assess their political affiliations and prospects.

With the three politicians reportedly already listed as APP candidates, their participation will add to the party’s representation across Rivers, Abia and Imo states as preparations for the 2027 National Assembly contests gather momentum.
