The Nigerian military under Operation Hadin Kai, working alongside United States Africa Command, has reportedly carried out another coordinated precision airstrike targeting suspected terrorists in Borno State.
The operation, which reportedly took place in Arege community within Kukawa Local Government Area, was said to have killed 21 suspected fighters linked to the Islamic State West Africa Province.
According to security sources, the strike followed intelligence gathering, surveillance and reconnaissance operations that confirmed the presence of insurgents in the area before the attack was launched on May 30.

Sources disclosed that the targeted enclave was allegedly being used by ISWAP fighters to coordinate activities and plan attacks within the Lake Chad region.
The operation reportedly focused on disrupting the group’s command structure and weakening its operational capacity in the North-East.
A security source quoted in reports described the mission as a carefully coordinated intelligence-driven strike designed to achieve “maximum operational effect” against the insurgents.
The precision bombardment was said to have successfully neutralised several fighters while damaging the terrorists’ operational network in the area.
Renewed Nigeria-US Security Cooperation
Military sources explained that the operation reflects the growing security collaboration between Nigerian forces and international allies in ongoing counter-terrorism efforts.
The partnership between Nigerian authorities and AFRICOM has increasingly focused on intelligence sharing, surveillance support and coordinated operations aimed at dismantling terrorist camps and limiting insurgent movement across the Lake Chad Basin.
Security officials believe the latest operation could significantly weaken terrorist regrouping efforts around Kukawa and surrounding communities, where insurgent remnants have continued to stage attacks on civilians and security personnel.
Lake Chad Region Remains Security Flashpoint
The Lake Chad region has remained one of the major theatres of insurgent activity in Nigeria’s North-East for years, with both Boko Haram and ISWAP factions operating across difficult terrain bordering Nigeria, Niger, Chad and Cameroon.
Despite repeated military offensives, armed groups have continued to exploit remote communities and waterways for movement and logistics.
The latest strike comes amid renewed military operations aimed at reducing terrorist mobility, disrupting supply routes and restoring security to vulnerable communities in the region.
Military authorities have yet to issue an official public statement detailing the full extent of the operation, but security analysts say sustained intelligence-led strikes may further pressure insurgent networks operating around the Lake Chad corridor.
