Professor Segun Aina has officially assumed office as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), succeeding Professor Ishaq Oloyede, whose two five-year terms ended on July 31, 2026. The handover ceremony took place on Friday at the board’s headquarters in Bwari, Abuja.

President Bola Tinubu approved Aina’s appointment on May 21, 2026, making the 39-year-old computer engineering professor the youngest person ever to serve as JAMB Registrar. Announcing the appointment, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, described Aina as an accomplished academic and systems expert with extensive experience in national examination systems, digital infrastructure and public-sector reforms.

In his inaugural address, Aina pledged to build on the reforms introduced by his predecessor while advancing the board’s use of modern technology to safeguard the integrity of its examinations. He promised to deepen collaboration with security agencies to combat examination malpractice and warned those involved in fraudulent examination practices to desist, stressing that such activities have no place in the nation’s education system. He reaffirmed his commitment to preserving the credibility, transparency and efficiency of JAMB’s examination and admission processes.
