A former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and ex-Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje, has returned to Nigeria after spending several weeks on vacation in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. His return is expected to signal renewed political engagements, particularly around developments within the APC in Kano State.
Ganduje arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, on Saturday at about 4:30 pm aboard an Emirates Airlines flight. After his arrival, he proceeded to Abuja later in the evening. His return comes amid heightened political activity in Kano, where internal party dynamics and broader political realignments continue to attract attention.

In a statement issued on Saturday by his Chief of Staff, Muhammad Garba, it was disclosed that Ganduje would immediately begin a series of consultations and stakeholders’ meetings. According to the statement, the engagements will focus on reviewing recent political developments in Kano State and assessing their implications for the party’s future.
Garba explained that the consultations would involve extensive interactions with party leaders, elders, and other critical stakeholders across the state. The aim, he said, is to engage widely, exchange views, and build consensus on how best to navigate the evolving political landscape.
“The consultations are aimed at reviewing current political developments and engaging widely with party leaders and stakeholders,” the statement noted. It added that Ganduje considers inclusive dialogue essential to strengthening party unity and ensuring strategic positioning ahead of future political activities.
APC Consultations to Shape Kano Political Direction
Beyond the planned consultations, the former APC national chairman is also expected to participate in the ongoing nationwide electronic membership registration, known as the e-registration exercise, being carried out by the ruling party. The initiative, which Ganduje pioneered during his tenure as national chairman, is regarded as a key reform aimed at modernising the APC’s internal systems.
According to the statement, the e-registration exercise was introduced to create a credible and comprehensive digital membership database. It is designed to improve internal planning, enhance transparency, and ensure that party records are easily accessible and verifiable across all levels of the party structure.
Garba noted that Ganduje’s decision to actively take part in the exercise underscores his continued commitment to the growth and institutional strengthening of the APC. He described the former governor as deeply invested in reforms that promote efficiency, accountability, and inclusiveness within the party.
Political observers see Ganduje’s return and planned engagements as significant, given his long-standing influence in Kano politics and his recent role at the national level of the party. As a former two-term governor and immediate past national chairman of the APC, Ganduje is widely regarded as a key stakeholder whose views carry considerable weight within the party.
The statement further emphasized that Ganduje remains focused on promoting unity and democratic consolidation within the APC, particularly in Kano State, which remains one of the party’s most politically strategic states. It added that his consultations are expected to help align party leaders and stakeholders around shared goals and priorities.
While no specific timetable has been released for the meetings, party insiders suggest that the consultations could shape upcoming decisions and strategies within the Kano APC. Ganduje’s return, therefore, is being closely watched by party members and political analysts alike, as it may influence the direction of internal party affairs in the state in the coming months.
