The African Democratic Congress (ADC) Governorship Campaign Council (ADC-GCC) has said its campaign is setting a new standard for political engagement in Osun State by prioritising peaceful campaigns, issue-based discussions and people-centred governance ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by the spokesperson of the campaign council, Hon. Nurein Adebisi, the party said its campaign had continued to attract support from academics, students, civil society organisations, artisans and members of the organised private sector through its focus on policy rather than political rhetoric.

The party stated that residents have actively engaged its campaign team on issues such as employment, education, security and economic development, describing the response as evidence that Osun voters are seeking practical solutions rather than politically motivated campaigns.

ADC said its governorship candidate, Rt. Hon. Najeem Salaam, has continued to present the party’s 10-point development agenda, which focuses on workers’ welfare, improved security, stable electricity supply, quality basic education, agriculture and agro-processing, healthcare, women and youth empowerment, support for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), and transparent governance.

The campaign council added that interactions with lecturers from Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Osun State University, the Federal Polytechnic, Ede, the University of Ilesa, market associations, youth groups and civil society organisations indicated growing public interest in issue-based politics.

P: Campaign Council Reaffirms Commitment to Peace

The ADC campaign council maintained that its campaign had been conducted without violence, intimidation or attacks on political opponents.

It said party members had been directed to comply with the guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), cooperate with security agencies and respect the rights of all residents regardless of political affiliation.

According to the council, maintaining peace throughout the campaign is a deliberate policy that aligns with the party’s manifesto and vision for governance.

The party also appealed to academics to contribute to policy development, encouraged the organised private sector to invest with confidence, urged civil society organisations to monitor its promises and voter education efforts, and called on youths and students to support what it described as a progressive political movement.

ADC expressed confidence that its approach to campaigning reflects the type of leadership it intends to provide if elected in the August 15 governorship election.
