OSOGBO – Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has condemned the alleged sabotage of a section of the LAMECO Flyover in Osogbo, describing the incident as an attack on public infrastructure and a dangerous act of anti-development politics.

‘No Governor Has Such Power’ — MC Oluomo Rejects Adeleke’s Suspension Of NURTW

The governor made the remarks on Thursday after inspecting the damaged section of the bridge alongside officials of the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure. Newsworld reports that the Permanent Secretary of the ministry briefed the governor, alleging that saboteurs deliberately damaged components of the flyover in what he described as a coordinated act of vandalism. The governor was also informed of a similar reported incident at the Lagere Flyover in Ile-Ife.

Reacting to the development, Adeleke expressed concern that politicians could allegedly target projects built with public funds for political reasons. “This is no longer politics. Election is about the people voting for leaders of their choice. Our responsibility as politicians is to market our plans and our records. Why would any genuine politician arrange to destroy a beautiful edifice like the LAMECO Bridge because of an election? That conduct is a hate crime against the people of Osun State,” the governor said.

Adeleke further alleged that members of the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) were behind the reported acts of sabotage, accusing them of engaging in anti-development politics. He urged politicians to focus on presenting their programmes to the electorate instead of allegedly destroying public assets, stressing that the infrastructure was funded with taxpayers’ money and should be protected in the interest of residents.

The governor commended engineers from the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure for their prompt response and directed immediate security surveillance of major public infrastructure across the state. “I hereby direct immediate surveillance and monitoring of key infrastructures. We must secure public assets in the best interest of the state and her residents,” Adeleke said.

Note: The allegation that political actors sabotaged the LAMECO Flyover reflects the position of Governor Adeleke and officials of the Osun State Government. There has been no independent verification of the claims, and the APC had not publicly responded at the time of filing this report.
