The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has claimed that Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, violated a political agreement concerning his second-term ambition.

Wike made the remarks on Monday during an inspection of several ongoing infrastructure projects in Abuja, including the Renewed Hope City in Kassara, the Old Keffi Road in Dei Dei, and key road projects linking the Airport Road to Kuje and Gwagwalada.

He also inspected the City Gate project being handled by Julius Berger.

Wike alleged that part of the earlier political understanding involved Fubara stepping back from contesting a second term, but said the governor went ahead to obtain nomination forms regardless.

“In the first place, he ought not to have collected the form because the agreement was reached that the impeachment should be dropped, while he should also not talk about a second tenure,” Wike said.

He described the move as a breach of trust and questioned Fubara’s commitment to the earlier peace efforts reportedly mediated with the involvement of President Bola Tinubu.

According to him, repeated interventions by the President were aimed at preventing further political escalation in Rivers State.

Praise For Kingsley Chinda

Wike also commented on the emergence of House of Representatives member Kingsley Chinda as a key political figure in the Rivers APC governorship race, describing him as a “strong candidate” with legislative experience.

“A good product markets itself. Everybody knows that Kingsley Chinda is the material. He’s quite experienced,” he said.

He further suggested that Chinda’s political profile made him a strong contender in the state’s evolving political landscape.

Infrastructure Inspection In Abuja

During the inspection tour, Wike expressed satisfaction with the quality and pace of ongoing projects, praising contractors handling major federal capital development works.

He specifically highlighted the City Gate project, describing it as a vision associated with First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu.

“When you have a good woman who means well for the administration of the husband… this is her brainchild,” Wike said.

The FCT Minister said Julius Berger had assured that the project would be completed by late May or early June and expressed confidence that the timeline would be met.

The comments come amid ongoing political tensions in Rivers State, where realignments ahead of the 2027 elections continue to generate debate.
