Rahmon Adedoyin’s death sentence for his role in the murder of Timothy Adegoke, a former master’s student at Obafemi Awolowo University in Osun State, has been affirmed by the Court of Appeal, Akure division, Ondo State. The court claims that the lower court, the High Court in Osogbo, Osun State, correctly convicted Adedoyin.
The judge, however, overturned the lower court’s decision to transfer his property to the state government because it had previously ordered the convicted person to be in charge of the deceased’s children’s education.
After traveling to Ile-Ife to take his MBA examinations, Adegoke, a chartered accountant and former Master’s student at Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife, Osun State, was murdered in Adedoyin’s hotel. Fatima Adesina, speaking for the state government as the respondent on behalf of Femi Falana SAN, stated shortly after the ruling that the Court of Appeal had upheld the Trial Court’s conviction for a number of offenses, particularly conspiracy to kill, unlawful killing, accessory after the fact, and a few others.
“However, the Court quashed certain aspects of the decision of the trial Court, especially the decision that relates to the order of the Trial Court mandating the respondent, the convicts, to be responsible for the education of the children of the deceased Timothy Adegoke.
