Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has officially received his payment receipt for the purchase of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential nomination form ahead of the 2027 general elections, signaling a major step in his renewed bid for Nigeria’s highest office.

The development was confirmed by the African Democratic Congress in a statement shared on its official 𝕏 platform on Saturday.

According to the party, payment for the ₦90 million presidential nomination form was completed on May 8, 2026, formally placing Atiku among the leading contenders seeking the ADC’s presidential ticket for the next election cycle.

In its statement, the ADC described the move as a significant milestone in Nigeria’s democratic process and part of a broader push for national renewal and inclusive leadership.

The party stated that Atiku’s participation reflects growing momentum within the ADC as Nigerians continue searching for what it described as credible political alternatives ahead of the 2027 elections.

The statement read in part that the former Vice President’s emergence represents “another significant moment in the growing movement for national renewal, democratic inclusion, and people-driven leadership within the ADC.”

The party further emphasized its commitment to building a platform centered on unity, economic recovery, national security, competence, and sustainable national development.

According to the ADC, the formal presentation of nomination forms is expected to take place on Monday at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja.

Political observers see Atiku’s latest move as a clear indication that preparations for the 2027 presidential race are already intensifying, with major political figures beginning to position themselves within emerging alliances and alternative political platforms.

Amaechi, Hayatu-Deen Also Join ADC Presidential Contest

Naija News understands that former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi has also obtained the ADC presidential nomination form.

In addition, presidential aspirant Mohammed Hayatu-Deen is reportedly among those seeking the party’s ticket.

The growing list of aspirants suggests that the ADC could witness a highly competitive presidential primary as the opposition landscape gradually takes shape ahead of the 2027 polls.

Analysts believe the ADC’s ability to attract influential political figures may significantly alter Nigeria’s political dynamics, especially as conversations around coalition-building and political realignments continue to gain momentum.

With Atiku now officially entering the contest under the ADC banner, attention is expected to shift toward how the party manages its internal primary process and whether it can consolidate support across key regions of the country.

The coming months are likely to reveal more political defections, alliances, and strategic calculations as parties prepare for what is expected to be one of Nigeria’s most competitive presidential elections in recent history.
