Honorable Bamidele Salam, representing Ede North, South, Egbedero, and Ejigbo Federal Constituency, has drawn a sharp contrast between how society reacts to tragedies affecting the rich versus the poor. Speaking on insecurity in schools, he noted that most children of leaders attend private schools or study abroad, while children of poor families and workers attend public schools that remain vulnerable to attacks.

“There’s a Yoruba saying that when a lion kills the child of a poor man, there is little mourning, but when it kills the child of a king, there is chaos,” Salam said.
Salam stressed that the continued attacks on schools across the country have created fear among parents and threatened the future of millions of Nigerian children.
According to him, education cannot thrive in an atmosphere of insecurity, warning that many families are already withdrawing their children from school out of fear of abduction and violence. He urged authorities to treat the protection of schoolchildren as a national emergency rather than waiting until tragedy strikes the families of those in power.
The lawmaker further argued that public officials must show greater commitment to strengthening public education and security infrastructure. He maintained that every Nigerian child, regardless of social status, deserves equal protection and access to safe learning environments. Salam called for improved collaboration between security agencies, local communities, and school authorities to ensure that schools no longer become easy targets for criminal attacks.
He called on the federal government to create a special security force to protect schools amid growing insecurity. Salam continued his speech despite interruptions.
