Presidential spokesperson Daniel Bwala has alleged that a rivalry between the Nigerian Army and the Nigerian Air Force during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari resulted in troops being denied critical air support during military operations.

According to Bwala, the lack of coordination between the two services negatively affected counter-insurgency efforts, leaving ground troops without the air cover required for some operations.

Speaking on the issue, Bwala said inter-service rivalry weakened operational effectiveness at a time when Nigeria was confronting serious security challenges across several regions of the country.

He suggested that the absence of effective collaboration between the Army and the Air Force hampered military operations and placed personnel at greater risk during engagements with insurgents and other armed groups.

The presidential aide contrasted the situation with the current administration’s approach, stating that President Bola Tinubu’s government has prioritised improved cooperation among the nation’s security agencies.

According to him, the Tinubu administration is working to strengthen joint military operations by encouraging greater coordination between the armed forces and other security institutions.

Bwala maintained that enhanced collaboration among security agencies is essential to tackling terrorism, banditry and other security threats confronting the country.

His remarks come amid ongoing efforts by the Federal Government to improve Nigeria’s security architecture through increased intelligence sharing, joint operations and better coordination among military and law enforcement agencies.

The comments have also renewed discussions about the importance of inter-service cooperation in achieving sustained success in Nigeria’s fight against insecurity.
