Two teachers were sentenced to 44 years in jail on Tuesday by the Ado Ekiti Division of the Ekiti State High Court for offenses involving the sexual assault of kids and the abuse of their official positions.
According to news reports, the defendants, Ayodele Olaofe (52), and Gbenga Ajibola (43), were hauled before the court on March 2, 2022, on three accusations related to abuse of office and rape.

According to the accusation, the first defendant raped a 17-year-old girl in Ado Ekiti in November 2019. The second defendant is also charged with violating Section 31(2) of the Child’s Right Law, Cap. C7, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012, for allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl in the same month.

Additionally, according to the allegations, both defendants were accused of abusing their positions as public workers in Ado Ekiti in November 2019 in violation of Section 104 of the Criminal Code Law, Cap. C16, Laws of Ekiti State 2012.

One of the victims, who named Ajibola as her computer instructor, testified in court that on the day in question, he gave her N200 to wait for him in front of a filling station on Bank Road in Ado Ekiti and told her to dress casually.

“He later came there alongside Mr Olaofe. One of my classmates arrived there before them, and she informed me that Mr. Olaofe had asked her to wait for him.

When they arrived, we all went to a motel in the Ado Ekiti neighborhood of Oke-Ila. We were shown to separate rooms at the hotel, where Mr. Ajibola engaged me in sexual activity. He kept bothering me after that day, and when I could take it no more, I told my mother what had happened, and she took up the cause,” the victim said.

Four witnesses were called by the prosecution, Kunle-Shina Adeyemi, who also produced a number of materials, such as victim and defendant statements, medical records, and Panel of Enquiry conclusions.

The defendants, along by their lawyer, called six witnesses in support of their defense and denied all of the charges against them, calling them politically motivated.

They supported their assertions of innocence with evidence as well.

At the conclusion of the proceedings, Justice Adeniyi Familoni found the teachers guilty, finding that the defendants had abused the victims without any sense of control and had ignored their moral responsibility.

To serve as a warning to anyone who might wish to follow in their footsteps, they should be severely punished for their transgressions.
