The relevant authorities in Lagos have received 195 bottles of 300-ml codeine and 4,973 loaves of cannabis sativa, totaling 2,433 kg, from the Nigeria Customs Service’s Western Marine Command.
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency are the authorities.
Comptroller Paul Bamisaiye, the command’s Customs Area Controller, completed the handover in Lagos on Wednesday.
According to Mr. Bamisaiye, the seizures occurred along the waterways close to Lagos’ Bar Beach Outstation thanks to the tenacious work and dedication of committed customs personnel.
He claimed that the seizures will help combat drug misuse and illegal commerce.
He stated, “With 29 loaves of Cannabis sativa hidden in a sack of rebagged rice, officers arrested two suspects in a recent operation by one of the command patrol teams on Monday within the Badagry axis.” We formally turn over 2, suspects, 195 bottles of 300-ml codeine, and 4,973 loaves of Cannabis sativa to the NDLEA and NAFDAC today for additional investigation and prosecution. The Western Marine Command’s dedication to protecting our waterways and halting illegal commerce was reaffirmed by these seizures, which were made throughout the southwestern waters.
He said that no one agency can win the battle by itself and credited the success to the excellent interagency cooperation.
According to Mr. Bamisaiye, the government entities were working together to make a significant difference.
He praised the management group and the comptroller-general of customs for giving its personnel the proper tools, welfare, and comfortable working conditions so they could do their jobs well.
Mr. Bamisaiye expressed hope that the transfer will help combat drug misuse and illegal trafficking.
He said customs officials were alert, determined, and unyielding, and he advised smugglers to stop engaging in the illegal activity.
Morrison Udo, the Commander of the NDLEA’s Western Command, praised the ongoing cooperation between the NCS and the agency while accepting the 4,973 loaves of cannabis sativa that were intercepted and the two suspects.
In addition to carrying customs along on the case, Mr. Udo stated that the NDLEA would bring the suspect to court for trial.
Additionally, 195 bottles of 300-ml codeine were sent to Adegboyega Osiyemi, NAFDAC’s Assistant Director of Public Relations.
Mr. Osinyemi expressed gratitude to the NCS for preventing the drug smugglers from successfully bringing the contraband into the community.
In order to create a healthy society, he asked the smugglers to support the government and engage in lawful enterprises.
