The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) has criticised the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communications, Daniel Bwala, over a remark reportedly describing Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde as inconsequential, saying the presidential aide would eventually “eat his words.”

In a statement issued on Wednesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Abubakar Yusuf, the party said the Presidency’s criticism of Makinde reflected growing concern over the governor’s rising political profile ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

According to Yusuf, the decision to deploy presidential aides to attack the Oyo State governor demonstrated a lack of confidence in the achievements of the current administration.

“Rather than defend its record in office, the Presidency has chosen to attack personalities. The decision to deploy presidential aides to criticise Governor Makinde only shows a lack of confidence in its own achievements,” Yusuf said.

The APM spokesman expressed confidence that Governor Makinde, whom he described as the party’s 2027 presidential candidate, would defeat President Bola Tinubu in the next general election.

He argued that Makinde would enter the presidential race with what he called an impressive record of governance, citing the governor’s performance in Oyo State as a major advantage.

“Daniel Bwala would soon eat his own words against Governor Makinde,” Yusuf stated.

He further claimed that President Tinubu should be concerned about Makinde’s political prospects, alleging that the Oyo governor had transformed the state into one of Nigeria’s leading economies.

“President Tinubu should be jittery because Governor Makinde is coming into the contest with an intimidating record of performance, including transforming Oyo State into one of the country’s leading economies, a feat Nigerians want replicated at the national level,” he added.

The latest exchange highlights the growing political rhetoric among parties as political alignments and campaigns gradually gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.
