DNA Dispute Tears Lagos Family Apart as Paternity Scandal Sparks Police Drama

A deep-rooted family DNA dispute has erupted into a full-blown crisis in Lagos, following startling claims by a woman who insists that her husband of over a decade is not the biological father of their two-year-old twins. The saga, involving Wasiu Akinbode and his long-time partner Aishat Abidemi, has taken a dark turn, drawing in relatives, police authorities, and raising disturbing questions about betrayal, paternity, and emotional abuse.
At the heart of the controversy is a devastating confession from Abidemi, who after years of living with Akinbode as his wife, dropped the bombshell that he is not the biological father of their twin children—a revelation that has sent shockwaves through both families.

Penultimate week, Wasiu Akinbode appeared visibly broken as he recounted his ordeal, flanked by his mother and aunt. Akinbode, who lives in the Omi Ata area of Abule Egba, said he had lived peacefully with his partner until the revelation tore his world apart.
According to Akinbode, the couple had three children before the arrival of the twins two years ago. “She recently broke my heart by telling me that I am not the father of our twin kids,” he said. “I took care of her throughout the pregnancy, paid medical bills, and even buried the placenta of the babies myself.”
The shock of the news, which he received over a phone call during a heated argument in October 2024, was so overwhelming that it caused a near-fatal accident while he was driving.
Though Abidemi later claimed the statement was made out of anger, she repeated it in February 2025, insisting this time that another man fathered the twins. Her increasingly erratic behavior, including absences from home for long periods under the pretext of church activities, added to Akinbode’s suspicion and heartbreak.
‘White Garment’ Church and Family Abandonment
Relatives of Akinbode pointed to Abidemi’s growing involvement in a white garment church as a turning point. His mother alleged that Abidemi began prioritizing the church over her responsibilities at home, often disappearing for days and leaving the children unattended.
Akinbode’s aunt, Mrs. Rukayat Kareem, described Abidemi’s behavior as increasingly hostile. “She refused to identify the father of the twins and said the matter had gone beyond a DNA test because we couldn’t afford it,” Kareem said.
Despite being with Wasiu since she was 17, and after benefiting from his support to set up a hairdressing business, Abidemi reportedly told relatives that she wanted to move on with her life due to Wasiu’s declining financial situation.
Police Involvement and Intimidation Claims
The situation further deteriorated when Abidemi reported Akinbode to the Oke Odo Police Division, alleging that he had abducted the children. The case was later transferred to the Area P Command in Ipaja, where both parties were instructed to return with the twins and the alleged biological father of the children.
However, Akinbode claims he has since gone into hiding due to harassment by police officers acting on Abidemi’s instructions. “They come to my house repeatedly. I fear for my life and have relocated the twins to my parents’ home,” he said.
Abidemi, in a separate conversation, stood by her claim. She acknowledged the shame in her actions but insisted that Wasiu had driven her into another man’s arms due to neglect and emotional maltreatment. “He is not my husband; we never formalized our relationship. I was just 17 when he impregnated me,” she said.
DNA Test in Limbo as Family Cries for Help
Despite offering to submit the children for a DNA test, Abidemi has not yet produced the man she claims fathered the twins. She accused Akinbode of using the children to extort money and said the biological father is now demanding custody.
Akinbode’s family, however, paints a different picture. His mother and aunt expressed concerns over his deteriorating health, saying the controversy has plunged him into emotional and physical distress.
“Wasiu used to be a healthy man, but this whole mess has drained him. He no longer eats or sleeps well. We are begging Nigerians to intervene before we lose him,” his aunt pleaded.
Torn Between Truth and Trauma
This bitter episode underscores the importance of clarity in family relations, the mental strain of unresolved paternity issues, and the dangers of unresolved marital conflicts. For Akinbode, the search for truth is far from over. As he awaits a formal DNA test, he is also fighting to reclaim his peace, dignity, and relationship with the children he has raised since birth.
Meanwhile, Abidemi remains firm in her decision to separate from the man she once lived with, claiming she wants to begin a new chapter with the real father of the twins—whose identity she continues to keep under wraps.
The unfolding drama, tinged with betrayal, police involvement, and emotional anguish, is a stark reminder of how personal relationships, when mired in deceit and neglect, can spiral into full-blown crises that threaten the very fabric of family life.
