Okpebholo Recalls Deadly Cult Clashes

The governor recalled that about 10 people were killed in cult-related violence shortly after he assumed office.

He said the incident highlighted the security challenges facing the state and the need to address drug abuse, which he identified as a major contributor to criminal activities.

Okpebholo stressed that tackling the problem required cooperation among the government, security agencies and members of the public.

He assured the NDLEA of his administration’s readiness to provide the necessary support for its operations in Edo State.

The governor also commended the agency for its efforts to disrupt drug-related activities and promote awareness of the dangers of substance abuse.

NDLEA Strengthens Partnerships Against Drug Trafficking

Earlier, Marwa said the agency was strengthening international partnerships to improve the fight against illicit drug trafficking.

He praised the Edo State Government for supporting the NDLEA’s operations and preventive programmes aimed at discouraging drug abuse.

The NDLEA chairman described Edo as a gateway and a cannabis-producing state, emphasising the need for sustained government cooperation to tackle drug trafficking.

He also identified illicit drugs as a major driver of criminal activities, including violence and other security threats.

Okpebholo Named NDLEA WADA Grand Patron

A major highlight of the visit was the announcement of Governor Okpebholo as the NDLEA Grand Patron of the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA).

The recognition is linked to efforts to strengthen public awareness and mobilise support for the campaign against drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking.

The governor’s pledge of support is expected to strengthen collaboration between the Edo State Government and the NDLEA in addressing substance abuse and its impact on public safety.
